Low voltage directive 2014/35/EU

All electrical and electronic products (except those for which specific directives applies, such as the medical device directive and the RED directive), with a supply voltage between 50 and 1000 V AC and between 75 and 1500 V DC, are subject to directive 2014/35/EU, known as the "low voltage directive".

The new machinery directive has further specified an applicability limit of the two directives, listing the categories of products which, when subject to the low voltage directive, are not considered within the scope of the new machinery directive, in particular the electrical and electronic products falling within following categories: appliances intended for domestic use, audio and video equipment; equipment in the information technology sector; ordinary office machinery, switchgear and low voltage control; electric motors; switchgear and high-voltage control, high voltage electric transformers.

The essential requirements of the Low Voltage Directive concern:

  • protection against hazards arising from electrical equipment
  • protection against hazards caused by external influences on electrical equipment
  • product documentation and instructions for use

With regards to the low voltage directive, we offer the following services:

  • Identification of relevant harmonized standards
  • Execution of compliance testing in affiliated laboratories
  • Technical file
